Katy

Katy graduated from Deer Park High School, where she played softball, basketball, and volleyball. She received a scholarship to play college volleyball, played 4 years and was the student assistant coach for a year. Katy graduated with Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and took the assistant coach job at Lee College for a couple years. Then moved to her current job, which is an Elementary Physical Education teacher in Pasadena ISD. She coached club volleyball from 2000 – 2016, when Katy took a break from that, she ended up having a lot of time to put into working out and improving her fitness.  After getting her L1 in August of 2019, Katy realized that it would be possible to combine her love for coaching and working out. She has been coaching CrossFit since January of 2020 and has loved every minute of it.

Katy has always been active, playing sports and working out. She first tried out CrossFit back in 2006 and quickly realized that she wanted to join a CrossFit gym wherever she could. She started CrossFit in 2007 and joined CrossFit Deer Park in 2012. The competitive push the classes give her, especially on the days she may not feel like pushing herself, is something she loves about it. The gym has been a place of fitness for her, sometimes a personal therapy session and some of the members have become close friends.  Life without CrossFit is something Katy could not imagine.

Katy is an advocate of fitness for all and lifetime fitness. If children and young adults can improve their fitness and health, then in the future as a adult over the age of 50 their quality of life improves so much! It is truly up to everyone to choose now how they want their life to be later. So many people are not able to take care of themselves later in life (nursing homes, etc.) if they knew then what they know now, she thinks they would have chosen a more active, healthy life. We are not trying to create athletes who compete at the CrossFit Games, but we are trying to help people independently live and not have to rely on others to take care of them throughout their life. She enjoys helping people reach their goals, especially the ones they thought they could never do. So many people are intimidated by CrossFit but ultimately, we are helping people become stronger, more confident and healthier.
